Emryld's AKC Registration PolicyGenerally speaking, there are no questions from puppy buyers about our policies concerning AKC registrations. More than 95% of all puppy placements from Emryld Siberians are pet placements. There are a few placements that are made each year with full registrations where the family will be doing conformation showing or has committed to careful breeding practices. Occasionally, a person with a pet placement will decide to request a change to a full registration. Additionally, we sometimes have families with a show prospect puppy decide they do not want to show their puppy after all. Whenever possible, we like to accommodate these requests. This page was written to help clarify our policy regarding registrations and change requests. Our highest goal is to continually strive to maintain and improve the quality
of the Siberian Husky breed, and to maintain our reputation as responsible
breeders. To meet this goal, we have certain standards that we
— as with all responsible breeders
— do our best conform to. Steve had to do this
when he got his 1st Siberian, a female, for breeding early in 1970. He had to
show evidence that his female was certified, show his female to the breeder,
show her the male to be used as stud, show evidence that the male was certified,
and WAIT until his female was at least 18 months old and the male he was
breeding her with was at least 2 years old. These were the recommended ages at
the time for a first breeding. AKC Registered Siberian PuppiesAll of our puppies are released with either a limited or full AKC registration. At one time, we sent the registration forms home with each puppy buyer. Now, we submit them here and send them in ourselves so we can ensure the registration forms are sent in because we found that most pet registrations were not getting sent in and some were getting lost, necessitating extra paperwork on our part to request replacements. Limited (Pet) RegistrationsMost puppies are placed with a limited registration, which we consider to be a pet registration. When you leave here with a pet puppy, you sign a contract stating that you understand you are expected to get the puppy altered at 4 months of age unless other arrangements were made at that time. Unlimited (Full) RegistrationsPuppies that are placed with a full registration are not required to be altered. These puppies are considered by us at 6-8 weeks to show signs of being good prospects for conformation showing. There is no way to know for certain what a puppy's actual prospects are for showing until he or she actually enters a show ring and the judges themselves are able to evaluate the puppy. We, as breeders, can only give our best opinion at the time the puppy is quite young. We are ourselves wrong as much as 50% of the time, and decide not to breed or show a dog because of a temperament or conformation issue that was not apparent when we first evaluated the puppy at 6-8 weeks of age. Converting a Pet Registration to a Full RegistrationIn many cases, we will consider converting a pet registration to a full registration if the owner does a few simple tasks and the dog conforms sufficiently to the AKC standard to be used for breeding. The requirements are as follows:
- or -
Our requirements for breeding and showing differ slightly, as shown in the chart below:
All dogs have faults, just like humans do. Faults which we consider to be disqualifying faults will not be considered for breeding, such as an incorrect bite, faulty movement, or a snap tail. If your dog will be considered as a show prospect or a breeding prospect, you will be given a sheet detailing the faults we have noted, and an opinion as to whether your dog is a good prospect for show or breeding in our opinion. You should, of course, get other opinions. What does this mean? If you have a pet Siberian from us, you can most certainly have your pet Siberian re-evaluated later on to see if his or her registration should be changed to a full registration. That change is not, however, likely to occur prior to 2 years of age so please do not head right out and start breeding a young Siberian you have received from us in anticipation of a registration change. There is no guarantee we will make that change in the time frame you have in mind if you should do such a thing. This page was last updated on Sunday, January 06, 2008 |
