Emryld's Stud PolicyWe do make our males available for stud to persons that will be producing a litter in a responsible manner. It is important to us that the female be verified to be healthy, and that her physical structure, type, and pedigree indicates she is a suitable match for one of our males. These are the requirements that we have for a female to be considered for breeding to one of our males:
We ask for these exams to be done and vaccinations be up to date to ensure the best opportunity for a healthy litter to be born. OFA and CERF clearances can't guarantee that the puppies will be free of inherited problems, but they do ensure that known carriers are kept out of the gene pool. If you have difficulty getting the pedigree or OFA/CERF exams done, please contact us for information on how to get them done. In addition to the health requirements, we will ask you to certify that no puppy from the resulting litter will be sold to a pet store or broker. Our fee for stud service is the price of one puppy, payable at the time of service. At our option, one puppy from the litter being bred will be accepted for payment instead of cash. If the breeding does not result in at least two puppies that survive for at least 2 weeks, a re-breeding will be done within one year for no additional fee. Other Outside BreedingsWe are not currently looking for outside stud males for our females. We do expect to do so at some point later on, possibly in about 2010. When the time comes to consider an outside stud, we will be looking for males with all of the criteria above listed for females, with one additional requirement -- he must (at a minimum) have completed his AKC championship, and it should be on record with the AKC. We do not lease our females for outside breedings. Leasing a female is something that we might consider in the future, but we're just not able right now to spend the time required for the additional checking and vetting that would be required to ensure the safety of our female.
